I am a Trustee for the Contra Costa County Board of Education. I am a representative of The entire Board of Education in Contra Costa County. I was elected by, and serve the cities of Concord, Martinez, Pleasant Hill, Pacheco and parts of Walnut Creek, Pittsburg, and Clayton.
I was elected in 2016 and my term expires 11/27/20.
I have lived in Concord for 25 years and have owned a small business for that time. For thirteen years I have worked as an adjunct professor at Laney Community College in Oakland, California. I teach Cosmetology and am proud of my profession as I have been able to amply support my family on my income from my salon business as well as teaching. This was especially relevant after I lost my husband suddenly over 10 years ago and needed to financially and spiritually support my two children. They were in elementary and high school at the time. This was a difficult time, but thru their love I have accomplished a great deal. I believe in looking forward, not the past and love the opportunity to have both options as a career and serving as a trustee now that I am elected.
In the past I have volunteered at the Bay Area Crisis Nursery in Concord, and enjoyed the children at the center so much I decided to become a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) for abused and neglected foster children in Contra Costa County. I am doing this now and hope I am able to continue this challenging and time consuming venture. I have learned a great deal about foster youth and that is exactly who is in some of the Board of Education schools.
All children are entitled to the benefit of the best education and services that can be provided from the public school system and I have advocated successfully for this in my family.
It is the right and my passion that students have an environment in which they are safe, can read, write and speak English and graduate from high school.
I am an advocate for the Career Technical Trades and understand the high demand for the 21st century job market.
Mental Health awareness and Special Education are at the top of my list, and I hope to learn as much as I can about both areas and welcome your ideas . I believe mental health must be addressed early in school to ensure that our children are empowered to be successful. They must be made to feel important and necessary and need our help.
I plan on doing more than my part and welcome hearing from you.
Thank you for visiting my website.
